If you’re a Chicago biker, you get it. You know the rush and exhilaration of rolling down the expressway, Lake Shore Drive, or open road on a sunny day, with the wind in your hair and the purr of your bike under you. But as a biker, you also know that the joy and freedom of motorcycle riding come with unique risks and dangers. When other drivers fail to share the road with motorcyles, tragedy is often the result. At The Romaker Law Firm, we respect bikers, and when they need a motorcycle accident attorney, Chicago bikers turn to us to get them the compensation that will help them get better and get back on their bike.

Respect, Help, and Compensation For Chicago Bikers and Their Families

Bikers are particularly at risk because of inattentive, distracted or negligent drivers who fail to see them or account for their presence. Vulnerable and largely unprotected even with helmets and safety equipment, motorcycle riders suffer catastrophic injuries or death at a much higher rate than drivers of passenger vehicles. On top of that, when bikers seek compensation for their injuries, they often face obstacles that other injury victims don’t, such as unfair prejudices and stereotypes even though bikers are some of the safest folks on the road.

Overcoming these challenges requires motorcycle accident attorneys who have the skills, commitment, and tenacity to get them the compensation that can help them recover and get them back on their bikes. Injured bikers or those who have lost a loved one in a Chicago motorcycle accident have steadfast allies and fierce advocates in The Romakeer Law Firm’s experienced motorcycle accident attorneys.

For over 20 years, Chicagoans have turned to us to help them through the many physical, practical, and financial challenges that follow a serious motorcycle injury. In the Hispanic community, in particular, we have earned a reputation as lawyers who treat every client like family. We’re there for them when they have questions, when they need support, and when they want a lawyer who will do everything they can to get them the maximum amount of compensation available for their injuries and losses.

In Spanish and English alike, we stand ready to help you when you call us for your free initial motorcycle accident consultation. Every case is important. Every client matters. Every dollar we put in your pocket can help make things better.

Bikers Face Greater Risks

The cold, hard truth is that bikers are at significantly higher risk of death than the vehicle drivers with whom they share the road. Per mile traveled in 2015, for example, bikers were 28 times more likely to die in an accident than car or truck drivers were, according to federal government statistics. That year, motorcycle accidents took the lives of 5,000 Americans, including 147 people in Illinois and injured over 88,000 more American bikers, including 2,643 Illinoisans.

It’ easy to understand why the injury and death rates for bikers exceed those of other drivers. Bikers aren’t surrounded by sturdy steel frames, restrained by seat belts, or cushioned by airbags. When a motorcycle collides with another vehicle or object or a biker loses control and lays down their ride, they are likely to be thrown from their bikes and make a violent impact with the ground or other vehicles.

Even with helmets and other protective gear, motorcycle riders remain particularly vulnerable to a wide range of catastrophic injuries, including:

  • Traumatic Brain Injuries
  • Eye Injuries
  • Spinal Injuries
  • Road Rash
  • Broken Bones
  • Neck Injuries
  • Burns
Common and Unique Causes of Motorcyle Acccidents

Many of the same factors behind vehicle crashes – drunk, drowsy, or distracted driving or speeding – cause motorcycle accidents as well. But bikers face additional and unique risks. The smaller size and stature of motorcycles makes them harder for other drivers to see. Bikes can move and maneuver in ways that cars and trucks may not expect. Factors such as lane-splitting, increased vulnerability to road hazards, and vehicles making left-hand turns, among other factors, also present unique dangers for bikers.

Common types of motorcycle accidents include:

  • Unsafe Lane-Changing Accidents.
  • Front-End Collisions
  • Rear-End Collisions.
  • Wide-Turn Accidents.
  • Left-Hand Turn Accidents.
  • T-Bone or Intersection Collisions.
  • Single-Bike Accidents.
Chicago Motorcyclists Can Face Unfair Prejudice in Injury Cases

Bikers come in all ages and from all backgrounds, and the vast majority of riders handle their motorcycles safely and responsibly. Unfortunately, many people still harbor unfair presumptions that bikers are reckless, violent, or irresponsible. Those people can include responding police officers, witnesses, judges, and jury members. They may bring an unfair bias to their evaluation of an accident’s causes, impacting their ability to objectively and fairly assign fault.

At The Romaker Law Firm, we get how these outdated stereotypes can add insult to a biker’s injury. Our Chicago motorcycle accident lawyers have the courtroom skill to cut through these biases and ensure that the blame is placed squarely where it belongs: on the shoulders of the driver or other individual who caused the motorcycle accident.

Our lawyers will fight tirelessly and relentlessly to get you the maximum amount of compensation for your motorcycle accident injuries and losses, including money for:

  • Medical and rehabilitation costs
  • Past and future lost earnings
  • Your pain and suffering
  • All other losses caused by the other driver’s negligence.

Settled for the defendant's insurance policy limits

On September 18, 2014 our client was driving a 2003 Honda motorcycle in a southeasterly direction on Grand Avenue near its intersection with Tripp Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. The defendant was driving a pick-up truck in a northwesterly direction on Grand Avenue. As our client entered the intersection, the defendant suddenly turned left in front of him causing a collision. The violent impact threw our client off his motorcycle, into the defendant’s truck and down to the pavement onto his face and chest. As a result, client sustained a broken nose, stitches on his face, loss of consciousness, neck and lower back pain.
