Chicago, IL – Driver Trapped, Hurt in Truck Collision on S Western Ave

Chicago, IL (May 16, 2024) – On May 16 in the afternoon, on the city’s Southwest Side a garbage truck collided with a semi-truck, resulting in the dispatch of a hazardous response team for a fuel leak and the rescue of one of the drivers by firefighters. The collision occurred on South Western Avenue, close to West 31st Street.

According to Chicago fire authorities, a crash between a dump truck and a tractor-trailer led to the driver of the dump truck becoming trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters extricated the man just before his transfer to a medical facility. EMTs transported the driver to the hospital, but his current condition is unknown. Paramedics also assessed the other driver for injuries, though their current condition is also unclear. No new information has been disclosed; however, the investigation is still on course.
